The work-outside day so Grandpa Tom could get a little peace and quiet inside.
This was such a fun day. All four of the kids wanted to earn some money and go to KMART for some kind of a toy. They worked hard cleaning the entire house. Then they decided they would really get busy and do some hot and heavy work outside. They actually helped in the yard with some big projects. After all their work, they each received a paycheck which we took to the bank to cash. Each one of them endorsed his or her own check and then traded the check for cash from the bank cashier (after hearing the bad news that they could not merely use a credit card and get as much from the bank as they wanted instead). Before going to the bank, they watched a "Hands on Banking" video teaching them all about budgeting and spending money wisely. They learned they had to plan for additional items before purchasing something for the exact amount of the check. They would need to take out tithing and sales tax would always be added on by the state government. After examing just about everything in the entire toy department at KMART, they all four found something wonderful for the correct price of change in their pockets and we all drove home happy. The excitement of setting a goal, working hard to carry it out and actually following through with plans made the day very worthwhile and rewarding to each of them. In truth, Grandma Bev had the most fun of all and the day's chores were done to perfection (Well, almost perfection!)
